Vrij Glas is a glass laboratory and production facility for artists, designers, and architects. Vrij Glas is one of the largest glass studios in Northwest Europe, specializing in glass blowing and creating stained glass to commission. The team of experts are consulted regularly on technical aspects by other glass studios, glass factories, and glass museums worldwide.
The Vrij Glas studios are housed in two industrial hangars of 1000m2, on a cultural heritage site by the North Sea Canal in the harbour of Amsterdam. They are equipped with six pot furnaces, several kilns, ‘gloryholes’, and other related equipment. As well as providing a wide group of renowned artists with knowledge and infrastructure, Vrij Glas also educates a broad audience, teaches historical glass making techniques, restores old architectural glass, and develops new uses for glass in visual arts, design and architecture.
